Portrait Painting Weekend
Saturday 30 September - Sunday 1 October 2017
Harbour House, Kingsbridge, Devon

Martin trained at the Royal College of Art where he was awarded the Royal College Drawing Prize and Madame Tussauds Prize for Figurative Art. His work has been selected for the BP Portrait Award and he regularly exhibits with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. He has recently returned from the US after being awarded Arts Council funding to paint the Amish community. Martin currently lectures at the Plymouth University where he teaches life drawing and painting and is a SSTAR Award Winner for Most Inspirational Teaching across the Faculty of Arts.

Over the two days we will be working directly from the model. On the Saturday morning I will give a short demonstration, we will then go on to explore structure, mixing skin tones, using a limited palette, achieving accurate tonal values, blocking in and using mark making to express form.

Sunday will be an opportunity to develop your paintings more fully, refining the painting by reinstating the portrait through the process of drawing, modelling, characterisation and brushwork.
