About
Martin trained at the Royal College of Art where he was awarded the Royal College Drawing Prize and Madame Tussauds Prize for Figurative Art. Subsequently, he has developed a diverse practice including portraiture, still life, experimental drawing and abstraction. His work is characterised by broad open brushwork, bold composition together with subtle films of tonal paint. Martin’s most recent subjects have included the singer Laura Mvula and the physicist and broadcaster Professor Jim Al-Khalili OBE. His work has been selected for the BP Portrait Award and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.

Martin currently lectures at the Plymouth University where he teaches life drawing and painting, he was a SSTAR Award Winner for Most Inspirational Teaching and Most Outstanding Support in 2013 across the Faculty of Arts.
